Rice

It is a grain of grass plant with scientific name Oryza Sativa. It is the staple food to most of the Asian countries that constitutes a large portion of world population. It is the oldest known cultivated grain in the world.

There are over 40000 varieties of rice available around the world. It is generally divided into 3 categories viz Long, Medium and Short grains. They are further classified as Raw Rice and Parboiled varieties.

Raw Rice

This is produced from matured paddy that is dried and milled to extract rice in raw form.

Basmati Rice

This is an aromatic and long grained rice variety cultivated in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Parboiled Rice

Parboiled rice is made by pressure boiling the husked grains and dried before milling. This helps in retaining proteins and minerals contained in the husk.
